Assignment 2 Critical Reflection

This project involved the 5 of us to compile information of our respected schools that we were delegated to conduct research on into a documentary video.

Experience and challenge
The process was easy and not as stressful as my other assignments as this is a 5-person project which included all of us who are familiar with each other. We knew the dynamics of the group and immediately delegated the respected tasks to ourselves. Due to this circumstance, there is no need for explicit communication. However, it may cause me to not prioritise interpersonal communication in the future as I am used to the same circle of friends which it might be a problem. On the other hand, this gives me a sense of self-awareness that I will have to focus on communication as it is crucial to the contribution of any work or task delegated to me should I have to collaborate with any of my colleagues in the future. Additionally, discussions between my group mates, though minimal has given me the opportunity to understand that there will be a lot more of those when I am working in the future.

The main challenge we faced (besides getting adequate information from out teacher-partner) was to manage our time as one of assignments was very heavy in burden and we had to allocate extra time to balance our workload. From this experience, it further emphasises the need to be resourceful and adaptive to different situations in order to handle the stresses which I will face in the future.

How it helped me
Despite our workload, I would find ways to manage my time and allocate them to my respective assignments, and it trained me to become better at time management and handling stress. It is expected for people such as teachers to handle a number of students, teach lessons, create lesson plans, attending teacher meetings and even handling CCAs, all these require effective time management as well as adaptability. From my interaction with my teacher-partner, becoming a teacher is incredibly hectic, there is not once you would never think about your students even when you leave school from work. Weak time management alongside stress could eventually overwhelm a person and I have seen many of my teachers in primary experience some form of stress as they were expected to fulfil many requirements and standards set by the school which caused them to lose the passion and interest in teaching. Not only the working dynamics between my friends and I has shed light on me over the fact that communication is key, our dynamics have been cultivated overtime, and we were fairly aware of our different perspectives which was indeed a very important aspect of teamwork as it can bring you to a different perspective. Just like in teaching, you are required to collaborate with different people with different perspectives that may be effective. Not only that, the collaboration between different minds may also help improve the project and reaching the goal faster.

Plans in the future
As mentioned above, I would like to improve more on my interpersonal skills, time management and even my adaptability. Being a teacher requires the same amount of passion you had from the first time you initiated your dedication as a teacher. All these skills are definitely a must when becoming a teacher and especially when they are involved in a CCA. Not only that, teachers have to ensure the quality of both education and CCAs as they are the ones that will cultivate the students into the person they are in the future which will also affect the values of society.
